Busy Weekend for the Club

The club had a busy weekend with members taking part in the Lacey Cup, a club spin and a church gate collection.

Fair play to our members that took part in the Lacey cup making up the biggest field to race together ever in Munster with 235 riders signing on. Pa Breen got himself into an early break of 5 which lead the field onto the climb of Gleann na Gealt. Tom Barrett was very prominent at the end section of the race holding onto the A1 group onto the Castlemaine climb and finished well up the field. Hugh McSweeney also did very well in one of the top groups as did Darragh Looney. Hopefully this willl set them up for the other races. The Cycling Pursuits cup in Broadford is next Sundays event which has a big hill on each circuit which may suit some of our riders!!

The website Sticky Bottle has some great videos and photos of the Lacey Cup event and a special thanks to Eamonn Breen and Tom Kenny for their support including fast wheels for Pa – ask him yourself what to bring to a race !!

The action starts at midday – full details on promoting clubs website.

The club spins will again take place on Sunday and Wednesday at the usual times as a text has gone out – excellent turnout this week and great to see the spins going so well. No Saturday spin now.

There is a church gate collection Saturday Night in Currow 7pm for 7.30pm mass and Currans 9.30am for a 10am mass.

Ill try and get a report from our members on the Lacey Cup Sunday

Weekly Update Week 6

Firstly the spins for the coming week are;

  • Saturday – The last of the pre season fast training – 2pm from the Tralee Road Roundabout. As it is the last one for the moment can all members make a good effort to turn up and keep up the numbers for what has been a very successful training spin.Image
  • Sunday Morning – 3 groups is the target again so do your best to turn up. 10am from the Currow Post Office. New members very welcome and all paces catered for. Image
  • Wednesday night – 7pm McElligotts Castleisland – aim next week for up to 7 laps at a Leisure pace. Remember if it is a faster or harder session you want then you are in the wrong place this is just about getting a few miles in. Numbers have dropped but please make an effort to turn up next Wednesday. We will be strict on the pace from next week onwards so if you think this is too slow for you then please do alternative training. Again its a target of 7 laps at the slowest persons pace. Lights and reflective clothing a must.Image

Weekend Update and important note about tomorrows spin

A good spin again this Saturday with the fastest times set due to favourable conditions. The lead group did 30.45 for the 20km.

Thers is a change of route for the Spin tomorrow to include the Lacey cup circuit for group 1 with Group 2 doing the Blennerville-Ashe Hill circuit and group 3 doing Ballycarthy – Farranfore. It is still starting in Currow at 10am and heading straight for Ballycarthy – we are not doing the Cordal bit of the route tomorrow. This is to help the racers prepare for Sunday 24th of Feb and gradually increase everyones mileage slightly.

ImageAlso the club meeting is on Monday night – 8pm for the racing section of the meeting to discuss upcoming races and training etc and the full club meeting at 8.30 to discuss all matters including the weekend away so please have your deposits of 50 per person with you. Busy Weekend as usual for the club

This week the club had 3 great spins as planned to accommodate all club members as well as a church gate collection.

A special thanks to the people that donated to us and to Marcus Cronin, Pat Brosnan, Eamonn Breen, Tom Kenny, Pat O Shea and to the organiser David Costello for the church gate collection in Scartaglin.

Moving on to this week – on Wednesday we will see an increase to 7 laps for the spin at a pace to accomodate the slowest on the night. Starting at 7 sharp members can join in if running late or drop out earlier if needed. Saturday will be as normal at 2pm and Sunday again at 10am.

Just a quick word to mind the many potholes that have sprung up due to the recent weather if you are out training so hopefully all cyclists will stay safe. Photo below was sent in to me and could be applicable on some of our training routes!
