MALIN TO MIZEN – DAY 1 REVIEW

Day 1 official is over and thankfully we’re 102 miles closer to the finish line in Mizen head.. Our decision to stretch our legs lastnight proved well worthwhile as the 31 miles back to Buncrana proved a lot more difficult than we ever would have anticiapted, the terrain was unforgiving with climbs that would surpass anything that we’ve seen in Kerry and cycling into a 29 mile an hour headwind took its toll on everyone.
Today was a vast improvement even though the mileage was more double what we did lastnight, the road surface was much improved as we were mostly cycling on national route ways. We had a tough test on the legs with a climb out of Letterkenny which was followed by the long and demanding Barnesmore gap which was a gradual pull of 15 miles. The team work rate has been fantastic with everyone working in unison to ensure that nobody is left behind and the cycle is more enjoyable for everyone.
Tomorrow is a gruelling 95 mile cycle to Athlone so fingers crossed it will go without incident for all..
tune back soon for more updates…. Tomas Kenny

Can the 12 participants please load their bikes and luggage into the van at Eamonn Colliers house (4 Lake View, Currow) between 8 and 9pm on Tuesday Evening. Can you contact Pa Breen (087 9201961) if you need further info about the bus or if you want to meet it along the road.

The West Lodge Hotel (Bantry) is provisionally booked for the cyclists and any friends joining us on the Monday evening after the finish. It is 35 euro per person for a 4 course meal and use of the leisure facilities. We have the option of a bus home after that (the cost to be split between whoever travels on it) or the West Lodge are offering Bed and Breakfast for 50 euro per person sharing.

So overall best of luck to all participants in all the above events especially the Malin to Mizen Marathon and please God all will return safely and eager for more cycling!!

Finally, http://www.cyclesure.ie were in touch about bike insurance if you want it. This might be especially relevant for the M2M crew as remember you are responsible for the safety of your own bike during this event including the storage of it.

EASTER WEEKEND REVIEW

These spin went off very well overall and we were relatively lucky with the weather. I think everyone found out a lot about preparation and approach to the actual M2M event. The group worked well especially on a number of the climbs where we cycled at a tempo that was consistent and this held the group together. Overall the 6 spins were great training and enjoyable.

If any of the members have feedback or ideas they would be welcome if it is something the group would benefit from. Please contact Tom K or John B. Also will the participants please return the letters sent out with full payment by Wednesday next.
