CHAINGANG FUNDRAISING QUIZ

Hey All. i got this earlier from Darragh Crowley and think if possible we should return the favour and support them for their pub quiz.

The Chain Gang CC is currently exploring the possibility of providing a club cycling experience for visually impaired people from the greater Tralee area with an interest in cycling.

Tandem cycling is the obvious way to do this and the Club made contact with the local offices of the National Council for the Blind, and a number of service users were identified. Plans are well advanced to provide the volunteer “pilots” with tandem specific and general awareness training for the visually impaired and efforts have since commenced to obtain funding for the three tandems required.

Tandems are specialised and expensive machines costing in the order of €2,000 each. The good offices of the Kerry Local Sports Partnership provided a welcome grant of €1,000 and this formed the bedrock for subsequent fundraising. Thanks to the generosity of Seán Fuller of Betty’s Bar, Strand Street, a former pilot for the late Tom O’Connor – a visually impaired member of the Blazing Saddles – the Club obtained the use of a training tandem.

The final fundraising event to bring the project to fruition will be a table quiz to take place in Betty’s Bar, Strand Street, on Thursday 25th March next at 8:30p.m. and all are welcome.

Support for the project, and interest in the quiz is very strong, and as Betty’s is a relatively compact venue it is recommended that those wishing to play arrive a bit early to ensure they get a table but even those who cannot attend on the night can donate towards the project – or buy a ticket for the raffle – by contacting Mary, Seán or any of the excellent support crew at Betty’s.

Regards,

Darragh Crowley,
Club Secretary
