CURROW CC 2010 AGENDA
December 22, 2009 Leave a comment
The Currow cycling club AGM was held on Monday night last in the Currow Community Centre. A good open discussion was had about the year just gone and it was evident that there is a high level of enthusism in the club moving forward to 2010.
The biggest point discussed and agreed was to structure the training spins on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Here we are going to talk to all cyclists and classify them into 3 groups, level 5s, level 6s and level 7s. The idea of this is that racing catagories this year are 1,2,3 and 4 so we are not closing the door on a member going racing but we dont have anyone in this catagory yet but hopefully this day wont be too far away. For now its leisure rules. Gareth Lawless is going to coordinate the groups. Added to this will be the fact that the Tuesday spin will leave Currow, go to Castleisland and onto Ballycarthy. This is for all groups together and at Ballycarthy then the groups will split. Similarly on Thursdays all cyclists will leave Currow, go across lowewr Dromulton, across Brehig and through Castleisland where the split will happen. As people get fitter they will be encouraged to move up the groups. All present and past members will be written to in the New Year outlining our plans and we hope to increase our membership and participation in club spins because of the new approach. A special word of thanks are due to Gareth for agreeing to front this up and we expect full cooperation from all club members on the matter as we do believe that this can see the club becoming a lot stronger and will help us collectively and individually. The principal of the group that goes out together comes ome together will be applied.
Another change this year is the sharing of the workload Eamonn Collier has been doing tirelessly for the past few years. Again a special thanks is due to Eamonn who has been a very successful secretary and under his “command” has seen the club grow to what it is today and we all see the improvement in our club structures. Remember Eamonn it is only a 1 year career break from the committee, we expect you back on duty next year!!
The individual responsibilities and officers will be outlined below. The club will be meeting on the first Monday of each month at 9.00 in the hall in Currow where the upcoming events will be confirmed. The first meeting will be on Monday Jan 4th 2010. This will range from cycling events to church gate collections. The person with the responsibility of any event wil then outline what help is needed for that particular event. This is then where we expect all club members to row in behind.
Malin to Mizen was also discussed and the remainder of the money due (225 euro) is due by the March meeting on March 1st.
Some Key dates for 2010 within the club are April 28th – May 2nd Malin to Mizen, June 6th Currow Leisure Tour, June 13th John Drumm Memorial Cup Race, September 5th Castleisland Day Care Centre Cycle. It is hoped to promote some more events such as a fundraiser for the Currow Tidy Towns association and possibly a March Leisure league, a low key event which would be more to ensure we are out training as well as continuing the club league like last year.
